Lone Star Rides Big Bend, TexasUncle's Around the Bend Non-Event Event, February 2009In February 2009, Lone Star co-owner Robert Krull and his wife Carla Cay took off from Austin to the Davis Mountains and Big Bend area of west Texas to ride their motorcycles in Uncle's Around the Bend Non-Event Event. This ride is an unofficial warm-up for Uncle's Texas Adventure Ride that takes place in Junction, Texas each April. The Around the Bend ride is an opportunity to ride inside and outside the borders of Big Bend National Park in one of the most remote and undeveloped areas of Texas. Participants have the opportunity to ride with fellow dual-sport enthusiasts from all over Texas and beyond. Some Lone Star customers joined Robert and Carla Cay in west Texas and according to reports they all had a great time.
The Two Roberts
It was no big surprise that Lone Star co-owner Robert Krull (holding the coffee cup) and Lone Star customer Robert Stallones (of Houston) found themselves at a local Terlingua watering hole on Friday morning. But the bar was only a meeting place for riders to plan their route for the day. The Around the Bend ride does not have set routes. Everyone can choose which way they want to go and just take off.

Lone Star friend Chris Grose on the BMW G650X Challenge Demo BikeIn addition to his BMW F650GS Dakar and Carla Cay's BMW F650GS, Robert hauled a new BMW G650X Challenge demo bike to the Around the Bend ride. Since the G650X Challenge is a fairly new model in BMW's Enduro lineup, many of the participants in the Around the Bend ride had not had an opportunity put this bike through its paces. There were lots of requests for test rides and Robert was happy let 'em try it out. This feature originally appeared in February 2009 - Updated: 06/21/10 |
