Because of the sheer scale of the logistical operation involved in
putting on the world's biggest BMW Motorrad customer event, there have
already been initial planning talks between representatives of the
local building authorities, the police and the Garmisch-Partenkirchen
(GaPa) tourist association. As this will be the eighth time the biker
party has taken place - and the seventh time in Garmisch - these
organisations are well equipped when it comes to providing the
necessary infrastructure and services that are essential when more
than 30,000 visitors are expected to descend on the picturesque Alpine
town during the first weekend in July.
Chief Commissioner Thomas Karl of the Garmisch police has been a key
partner to all guests for the last eight years. Coordinating with the
building authorities, he and his colleagues in the traffic squad always
ensure a smooth flow of motorcycles (and occasionally cars!) to and from
the Hausbergplatz, where the event takes place.
Jrgen Pohl, project manager with the local building authority, works
with his staff and an impressive array of construction machinery to
create the complete infrastructure at the festival site, including the
spectacular `x-track' which will see the best enduro riders in the world
go head-to-head - and all in the name of entertainment!
The Garmisch-Partenkirchen tourist office will once again fulfil all
the reservation requests of the BMW Motorrad Days guests. According to
Christina Sprenger of the Marketing & Public Relations team of
Garmisch-Partenkirchen tourist office, it is a good idea to reserve
overnight accommodation for BMW Motorrad Days 2009 early on as all the
rooms sell out every year due to the popularity of the biker party.
"As the event has grown each year, and more and more BMW riders find
out about it, we find that demand for hotel rooms is extremely high,"
she says. "However, we will do everything we can to ensure that the
many BMW motorcyclists from all over the world enjoy an interesting and
pleasant stay in our town with its distinctive Bavarian flair."
Together with the event agency `munich-one', the BMW Motorrad event team
is hard at work back in Munich creating the layout for the festival,
including the interior design and set-ups for the big tents, and the
format for the entertainment programme. According to architect Martina
Schiffgens of munich-one, they are looking to break new ground in their
layout plan for 2009.
"This is a very exciting time of the project, working out how to make
everything fit perfectly," she said. "An added bonus this year is that we
also have to create sufficient space for the appearance of the BMW
Motorrad Motorsport World Superbike team. This means that I have to
restructure the layout, although I would like to retain some proven
elements in the new design."
Claus Sauer, munich-one's project manager for BMW Motorrad Days, is
currently engaged in contract negotiations with the bands that will once
again be hired for the huge parties on the Friday and Saturday evenings.
Rumour has it that the crowd favourites Blechblos'n will be one of the
bands that are returning to play in the big tent at Garmisch, so expect
plenty of dancing on the tables!
BMW Motorrad event marketing's Dagmar Eva Urbanek is delighted at the
continued interest shown in the event by exhibitors and partners, and
is relishing the challenge of accommodating as many of them as possible
at BMW Motorrad Days.
"Since August 2008 we have received registrations from over 100 tuning
companies, accessory suppliers, travel and training partners from all
over the world for presentation booths which we look forward to
incorporating in our plans for 2009 once again, of course. Because we
are expecting many visitors, it is a good idea to those who are planning
to come in July to reserve overnight accommodation for BMW Motorrad Days
2009 as early as possible. And for those who like to sleep `under canvas',
our camping area gets bigger from year to year."
