BMW Dealers get a taste of the new R1200GS in South Africa
New BMW R1200GS models await their riders
In February 2004 some of the world's top BMW motorcycle dealers were invited to South Africa to get their first look at the new R1200GS, BMW's latest adventure touring motorcycle. Lone Star BMW/Triumph co-owner Robert Krull and his wife Carla Cay flew from Austin to Atlanta, then took a "brief" seventeen hour flight to Johannesburg, South Africa, a total of 9146 miles from home. They continued on to Capetown, then spent two weeks touring the country and putting the new R1200GS through its paces, both on the road and off. Although it was chilly in Austin, it was hot in the middle of the South African summer. Robert and Carla Cay returned to Austin awestruck by the beauty of South Africa and by the performance of BMW's newest winner, the R1200GS.
