What would you do, and what could you do as a fellow motorcycle rider if you
were riding with or came upon a motorcyclist who had been involved in a
serious riding accident? In early autumn of 2002, Lone Star BMW/Triumph
co-owner Peter Yeager witnessed just such an event while riding in the Texas
Hill Country. A motorcycle driver and his passenger/wife went off the road
right in front of Peter. The driver suffered serious head injuries, while his
wife sustained a compound arm fracture and multiple contusions. Fortunately
for these two unlucky fellow riders, K.T. Goodman, an Emergency Medical
Technician from Corpus Christi, was riding his own motorcycle in the same
area. With the help of other riders, K.T. was able to provide immediate
first-aid treatment and direct others in the care of both injured persons
until the EMS helicopter and ambulance arrived. After observing and assisting
K.T. Goodman in such a chaotic and critical situation, Peter Yeager realized
that there was a lot that he himself could and should learn about what to do
to help an accident victim survive until professional medical help arrives.
Peter contacted K.T. Goodman and together they decided that "Rider Aid"
training seminars could be something very worthwhile for the customers of
Lone Star BMW/Triumph.
